8 THE YOUNG MEN of America are fighting and dying on many
distant battlefronts."It is for us, the living to be here dedicated to the great
task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we
take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the
last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that
these dead shall not have died in vain."The representatives of the Republican Party, in convention
assembled, hereby in the spirit of Lincoln offer the following
declaration of its purposes:We believe that the people of the United States have three

|2. ||To win the peace that will follow.|
|3. ||To preserve and strengthen our basic American
liberties and opportunities.|
We submit the program outlined below in the profound
conviction that it is an effective instrument for the furtherance
of these objectives.
We charge that the Roosevelt Administration is incapable
of achieving these objectives. Its tired and cynical expediency
is wrecking all hopes of a worthwhile peace. Its constant sacrifices of moral principles have robbed the United States of its
rightful prestige and influence. Its inefficiency, reckless extravagance and misuses of personal power have deeply undermined
the foundations of our liberties and our free economy.
