Growing Pains: Russian Democracy and the Election of 1993

No doubt as Russian electoral politics continue to evolve and parties continue to develop, these constraints will have a significant impact on the process. In a country as vast and complex as Russia, both the national reach of media presence and the local penetration of strong organizations will play an important role in determining election outcomes, but their relative importance will be influenced by the arena in which the parties compete.
