Agnus Paschalis, Cena Domini, xij apostoli, Jesus percinctus lintheo lavans pedes eorum; institucio sacramenti corporis Cristi in nova lege, communio apostolorum.
JESUS ¶Peace be both by day and night
Unto this house, and to all that are here.
Here will I hold, by promise plight,
The feast of Pasch with friends full dear.
MARCELLUS¶Master, we have arrayed full right
Service that beseems for your supper.
Our lamb is roast and ready dight,
As Moyses' law declares full clear.
JESUS¶That is, each man that has
People in his own family
Shall roast a lamb at Pasch
For all his company.
ANDREW¶Master, the custom well we know,
That with our elders ever has been,
How every man with his folk owe
To roast a lamb and eat it clean.
JESUS¶I thank you soothly of your saw,
For as you say, yourself has seen.
Therefore array you all in row;
Myself shall part it you between.
Wherefore I will that ye
Eat thereof every one;
The remnant parted shall be
To the poor that purvey none.
Of Moyses' law here make I an end
In some party, but not in all.
My command shall otherwise be kenned
With them that men shall craftily call.
