( 1989) found family cohesion and flexibility to be strongly related to (better) glycemic functioning; yet, for adolescents with a longer disease duration, associations between family variables and control declined substantially. Studies that are sensitive to the developmental aspects of the child as well as the developmental aspects of the disease will be important for understanding the challenge of diabetes management for youngsters and families affected by this complex, demanding, chronic illness.
