ROWLAND EVANS was graduated from Kent School and attended Yale until the outbreak of World War II, when he joined the Marines and served in the Solomons. His first newspaper job was with the Philadelphia Bulletin. He moved to the Associated Press Washington Bureau in 1945, and was assigned to cover the U. S. Senate in 1953. Two years later he transferred to the New York Herald Tribune Washington Bureau, where he covered politics and Congress. On the foreign scene he traveled extensively in Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union and the Far East, writing for the Herald Tribune and various magazines. On May 15, 1963, Mr. Evans joined with Robert Novak in writing a daily Washington column, "Inside Report," nationally syndicated by the Publishers Newspaper Syndicate. Writing by himself and in collaboration with Mr. Novak, Rowland Evans' work has appeared in the Saturday Evening Post, Harper's Magazine, The Reporter, the New Republic and other national magazines.
ROBERT NOVAK was graduated from the Joliet, Illinois, Township High School and the University of Illinois. His first newspaper job was as a reporter for the Joliet Herald-News in 1948. He later worked for the Champaign-Urbana Courier before Korean War service as an Army lieutenant. Following his discharge from the service, he joined the staff of the Associated Press in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1954. He was later transferred to Indianapolis, to cover the statehouse and politics. In 1957, the AP transferred him to Washington, where he helped cover Capitol Hill. He joined the Washington Bureau of the Wall Street Journal in 1958 as Senate correspondent and political reporter, becoming chief Congressional correspondent for the Journal in 1961. As a Journal reporter, he traveled from coast to coast in covering the national political campaigns of 1958, 1960 and 1962. In May, 1963, Mr. Novak teamed with Rowland Evans to write the syndicated political column, "Inside Report." He is the author of The Agony of the G.O.P. 1964 and his writings, both alone and in collaboration with Evans, have appeared in many national magazines.
