This volume, and the conference upon which it is based, would not have been possible without the support of many people. First of all, Professor Randall Hinshaw who shepherded and sustained this unique series of dialogs for the past thirty years and kindly invited me to participate. Randall's wife Pearl, who was always at his side and graciously consented to fund the conference so that the series would have one more incarnation. Luzma Brayton, Director of Special Events at Claremont Graduate University, served as the conference's organizing director. Without her affection for this conference and the care she showed for every aspect of it -- from worldwide travel arrangements to the splendid meals she hosted, and the myriad other details that she oversaw -- its ultimate success would have been in jeopardy. Bob Mundell was an invaluable adviser and graciously counseled me on the editing, and Max Corden served as an extraordinary conference chair. The conference audio transcripts were transcribed by Alex Huemer who also prepared the index and served as fact-checker. Transportation for conference participants was handled by Brooks Caven and Alex Huemer, and the administrative staffs at the Claremont Graduate University, Pomona College and Scripps College were unfailingly helpful and polite. To all of you I offer my sincere thanks.
