This same general outline is detectable in descriptions of agricultural reform elsewhere is eastern Europe. Skalnik ( 1993:224) suggests that Slovakian discussions of the new Land Act in 1991 included the possibility of "dissolving from above," but Pollak ( 1992) description of a single Slovak village more than a year latter, shows that some collectives continued successfully as revamped cooperatives. Kideckel ( 1992) account of decollectivization in Romania shows a similar softening of anti-collective attitudes on the part of the ruling National Salvation Front.
