Loren R. Graham was born in Indiana in 1933 and took his Bachelor of Science degree at Purdue University. Studies in his special field, the history of science with emphasis on Soviet science, were continued at Columbia ( M.A., 1960, Ph.D., 1964) and at Moscow University, 1960-61. Professor Graham has been a Fulbright-Hays Fellow and Guggenheim Fellow, and was a member during 1969-70 of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton University. He has published one previous book, The Soviet Academy of Sciences and the Communist Party, 1927-1932, with the Princeton University Press, 1967, and has been associate professor of history at Columbia University since 1967. Professor Graham lives with his wife and daughter in New York City.
