and a low level of mental workload during the sixth trial. At the same time, psychophysiological variables indicated a moderate level of arousal. Differences between groups were marginal. These results reflect the successful coping with deficits in temporal aspects of work concerning SRT subdivisions. Regardless whether such deficits were present or not, all subjects expended a similar amount of effort in performing the task, and they all felt comfortable while working.However, similar efforts resulted in different levels of performance. In comparison with subjects working under an optimal subdivision of total SRT, subjects working under a sub-optimal subdivision served relatively few customers, and they made no particular efforts as to avoid errors. But this way of dealing with the task enabled them to keep subjective costs low.After all, it can be concluded that poor performance during computer work can be prevented by optimizing SRT duration. Optimal SRTs will be obtained when using graphic representations of SRTs to be adjusted by the subject. This procedure is very simple to learn. Tools for graphic subdivision of total SRT can be easily programmed with each modern computer. They should be applied as standard tools for determining the optimal SRTs whenever developing interactive computer tasks. For achieving a high user satisfaction and a high efficiency of computer work, SRTs should always be optimized.
