negative effect of information overload. This was supported on a subjective level and for visual knowledge. The subjective preferences showed that mono presentations were preferred. This shows that information overflow is to be taken seriously. Internet demonstrates the opposite trend, the production algorithm there seems to be that "more is better".

The results demonstrate that the application of cognitive descriptions (stable vs. variable and visual vs. auditory) of multimedia effects do not produce coherent results. These cognitive descriptions may be too general, and the effects of each multimedia feature must be evaluated according to the context in which it is presented. The inconsistency between visual and auditory effects may be caused by that the sense modalities interact with the structure of the representation forms. The auditory representation and reception of voice is basically different from visual representations.

This study shows that the combination of multimedia features is relevant. Further studies should continue to investigate the cognitive impact of multimedia with the aim of practicable guidelines for optimal combinations of learning content and multimedia features. This experiment should also be repeated with adult subjects, as their perception of text may be different from that of children.
