5 JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE
At a meeting between Harold Macmillan and
President John F. Kennedy, the British Prime
Minister asked his nuclear expert, Sir William Penney,
how many hydrogen bombs would be needed to
finish off Britain. 'Five, I should think, Prime
Minister,' Penney said, then added: 'Just to be on
the safe side, let's say eight.'
