Just as we find wicked old witches in fairy tales, myths, and legends, so do we find old people of great powers and wisdom. Job in the Bible is one example. He was already an old man when God tested his faith and endurance by depriving him of his health, his property, and his friends. His faith unshaken, Job survived the ordeal and, when it was over, lived another hundred and forty years. Such an accomplishment earned Job a place among the patriarchs, the wise old men of scripture, and made his name synonymous with extreme patience.
