Associates, and Ray O'Connell who completed the editorial work. We are in-
debted to Marcy Pruiksma, our book production editor at LEA, for her pro-
fessionalism and the great care she gave this book. We thank Edward Zigler
for taking time from his busy schedule to write a thoughtful Foreword. We
are especially appreciative of the DLD Executive Board and the DLD Presi-
dents who encouraged the ideas of the Research Committee and supported
the work with a generous budget: Elise Blankenship, Cindy Terry, and Can-
dace Bos. Finally, we acknowledge the 1992-93 DLD Research Committee
who convened on a cold winter weekend in Reston, VA, to consider future
directions for research in learning disabilities from which the idea for this
conference took shape: Reid Lyon, James D. McKinney, Robin Morris, For-
rest Novy, Melinda Parrill, Addison Stone, and Joseph Torgesen.

The hard work of all of these professionals is evident in the following
pages. We are deeply appreciative of their time and effort.
