Mrs. Edna O'Shaughnessy studied philosophy at Wit- watersrand and Oxford Universities, after which she trained as a child psychotherapist at the Tavistock Clinic and worked for many years in the Department of Child Development at the Institute of Education, London Uni- versity. At present she is a training analyst of the British Psychoanalytical Society and works in private practice as a psychoanalyst of children and adults.
Dr. Hanna Segal has at various times been Scientific Secretary, Chairman of the Education Committee, and President of the British Society and Vice President of the International Psychoanalytical Association, as well as Visiting Professor of the Freud Memorial Chair at Uni- versity College, London. She is the leading exponent of Melanie Klein's work, about which she has written in numerous papers and two books: An Introduction to the Work of Melanie Klein ( Heinemann, 1964; reprinted Karnac Books, Institute of Psychoanalysis of London, 1988) and Melanie Klein in the Modern Master Series ( Fontana 1979). She has also developed her ideas in a number of original papers, which are collected in her third book, The Work of Hanna Segal ( Jason Aronson, 1981; reprinted Karnac Books, Free Association Books, 1986).
