About the Contributors

ALMA HALL serves as chair and Assistant Professor in the Department of
Communication Arts at Georgetown College. Holding an MSW from the
University of Louisville and graduate communication courses from West-
ern Kentucky University, she returned to Vanderbilt University for her doc-
torate after careers in social work and business. Her dissertation,
"Reflections: The Images and Stories of Women Leaders," extended her in-
terest in leadership studies. She continues to provide communication team
building and leadership consulting for nonprofit and business development.
She recently published an article in The Advocate entitled "Defender Pro-
fessionalism and Excellence,"
based on leadership consulting with an
agency of the Kentucky state government. Dr. Hall maintains affiliation
with the National Communication Association, the National Society for
Experiential Education, and several business organizations.

SHANNON SKARPHOL KAML is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of
Speech Communication at the University of Minnesota. Her research inter-
ests include public address, social movement, and visual communication. A
portion of her dissertation is published in the 1999 Proceedings of the
NCA/AFA Conference on Argumentation. She is the recipient of the Uni-
versity of Minnesota's Arle and Billy Haeberle Research Award and Top
Four Paper awards from both the National Communication Association's
Visual Communication Division and the Central States Communication
Association's Communication Theory Division.
