Nikodemus Tes-
sin the Younger
designed the pom-
pous carved and
gilded Kings' Pews
which were exe-
cuted in wood by
Precht, and in-
stalled, 1684, in
the Storkyrka.
Tessin also made
the drawings for a
pulpit, sculptured
by Precht, which
was presented to
Uppsala Cathedral
by Hedvig Ele-
onora in the year
of the battle of
Poltava. Through
these works of art
in particular, baro-
que sculpture, as
practised by Tes-
sin and Precht,
came to exert a
strong influence
upon the adorn-
ment of our Swed-
ish churches.

Concerning the
two travelers' visit
to Versailles, Tes-
sin writes, that
Louis XIV "let the honor come to me that all waters in the
whole Versailles have played for me." Europe's greatest
landscape gardener, Le Nôtre, conducted him "from
one pleasure-grove to another," and Tessin declares,
