The nine authors of the book have all contributed some-
thing to chapters other than those for which they were indi-
vidually responsible, so that listing the authorship by chapters
is bound to do some injustice. However, the chapters for
which each author is solely responsible should be indicated.
Chapter I, "Fundamental Economic Problems of War", was
written by Alfred C. Neal, as was most of chapter II, "Eco-
nomic War Potential". Hugh B. Killough and Philip Taft
also contributed important sections of chapter II. Chapter
III, "Problems of War Production", was written by Willard C. Beatty
. Chapter IV, "War Labor Problems", was the work
of Philip Taft. Chapter V, "Financing the War Effort:
Public Finance", was written by Kenyon E. Poole; while
Chapter VI, "Financing the War Effort: Business Finance",
was written by Chelcie C. Bosland. Wm. Adams Brown Jr.
, wrote chapter VII, "Wartime Management of the Mone-
tary and Credit System". Merton P. Stoltz is the author of
chapter VIII, "The Control of Individual Prices". Antonin Basch
wrote chapter IX, "Economic Warfare". Hugh B. Killough
is the author of chapter X, "Post-War International
Economics".

The authors are particularly indebted to Mrs. Margaret R.
Stoltz who volunteered a generous amount of time and effort
to help prepare the manuscript for the publisher. Miss Dor-
othy Heselwood, secretary to the department, worked long
hours to provide a readable manuscript. Miss J. Weiss and
Miss H. B. Brown, two students in the elementary course at
Pembroke College, willingly provided the authors with stu-
dent reaction to the content of several chapters. Space limita-
tions do not permit adequate acknowledgment of the extra
time and effort devoted to editorial work on the book by
several of the authors.
