Laura Aguilar is a Chicana photographer from the San Gabriel Valley, California. Of Mexican and Irish descent, much of her work is concerned with the tension of her duel cultural heritage. She received her training at East Los Angeles Com- munity College and has exhibited extensively since 1985.
Norma Alarcón is Associate Professor, Chicano/Ethnic Studies, University of Cali- fornia, Berkeley. She is editor and publisher of Third Woman Press. She has translated "This Bridge Called My Back" into Spanish and has published numerous seminal articles on Chicana literature and Latin American women writers.
Gloria Enedina Álvarez is a poet, teacher, and a cultural ambassador creating bridges between Central American women and Chicanas. She continues to teach bilin- gual poetry workshops based in the Latino/a community and has published her first collection of poetry title The Excuse/ La Excusa.
Alma E. Cervantes is a graduate from the Havana Film School. Her training in scriptwriting has redirected her imagery in poetry. A poet springing from her E.L.A. experience, Cervantes's poems have been published in anthologies such as Invocation: L. A. Urban Multicultural Poetry.
Lorna Dee Cervantes is the author of two collections of poetry, the classic Emplu- mada published in 1981 by the University of Pittsburg Press, and From the Cables of Genocide, which has received both the Patterson Poetry Award and the poetry award of the Institute of Latina American Writers. She is currently completing her third collection titled Bird Ave. Cervantes teaches Creative Writing at the Uni- versity of Colorado in Boulder.
Yreina Cervántez is a muralist, painter, teacher of art, and community healer through the arts. Her imagery often reflects a complex symbolism that arises from her political, cultural, and personal beliefs and traditions. She is a recipient of numer- ous grants and awards including a Certificate of Distinguished Recognition from the National Association of Chicano Studies and the Vesta Award for Excellence in the Arts. Currently painting a mural with Alma Lopez for the Huntington Beach Arts center titled "La Historia adentro, la Historia afuera," she is also an instructor at Rancho Santiago.
Denise Chávez, novelist, poet, and playwright, is the author of Face of an Angel ( Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1994), La Mujer Que Sabia El Idioma de Los Animales, and The Last of the Menu Girls. She is the recipient of the American Book Award, the Premio Aztlan, the Mesilla Valley Writer of the Year Award, and the Steele Jones Award. She has received a National Endowment for the Arts grant and a Rockefeller Playwright grant. A native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Chávez sees herself as a community-oriented performance writer.
