presence of Huesca in the contemporary Spanish narrative. The second is an anthology of texts of living authors in which Huesca is present. The selected writers range from the editors of this volume to established novelists such as J. Llamazares, M. Sánchez Ostiz, J. Tomeo, G. García Badell, and others hardly known. Twenty-three texts are included, mostly by Aragonese authors, with the curious exception of the four best known ones. 1.004. Agustí Inacio. Ganas de hablar. Barcelona: Planeta, 1974. 436 pp. Memoirs, generally lacking interest. With regard to the post civil war novel, however, there are some interesting comments about the Nadal Prize. In the second part of Chapter 8 (pp. 168 - 183 ) A. presents an insider's view of the mechanics and politics involved in awarding this prize from 1945 to 1956. In addition to some anecdotes, he offers valuable comments on not well-known works, sometimes unjustly so, such as La puerta de paja by Vicente Risco. 1.005. Alborg Juan Luis. Hora actual de la novela española. 2 Volumes. Madrid: Taurus, 1958 and 1962. 333 and 433 pp. One of the first comprehensive studies on the postwar novel published in Spain. At the time of its appearance it was of vital importance, but now, more than three decades later, some of A.'s opinions have become obsolete. The most useful part of the work is the one dedicated to novelists seldom discussed by critics. Volume one contains two introductions, one to the work itself and the other to the novel in general. They are followed by individual studies of C. J. Cela, I. Agustí, C. Laforet, J. M. Gironella, M. Delibes, P. de Lorenzo, A. M. Matute, E. Quiroga, R. Fernández de la Reguera, T. Salvador, A. Núñez Alonso, I. Aldecoa, J. L. Castillo Puche, R. Sánchez Ferlosio and A. Prieto. Following the same format, the second volume deals with R. J. Sender, M. Aub, J. A. de Zunzunegui, M. Halcón, A. Barea, G. Torrente Ballester, S. J. Arbó, D. Fernández Flórez, L. Romero, D. Medio, E. Soriano, J. Fernández Santos, M. Salisachs, and J. M. Castillo Navarro. 1.006. Alonso Santos. La novela en la transición (1976-1981). Madrid: Libros Dante, 1983. 178 pp. An indispensable reference work for those interested in the developments of the Spanish novel during the years following Franco's death, highlighting La verdad sobre el caso Savolta ( 1975) as the first step into a new era. After an introduction entitled "The Immediate Narrative Heritage," A. divides his study in three parts: 1. "The Novel of Transition: Form and Content" (pp.16-110); 2. "Narrative Techniques and Procedures" (pp. 111-143); and a third part in which, by way of conclusion, A. discusses fifteen novels, published between 1977 and 1981, that are representative of the narrative of that period. The book ends with a list of 183 novels published in those years. 1.007. ---, ed. Literatura leonesa actual: estudio y antología de 17 esctitores.
