About the Author

LEONARD FEINBERG is professor of English at Iowa State
University, where he has taught since taking his Ph.D. at the
University of Illinois in 1946. In 1955 he made, for the
Fund for Adult Education, a series of lectures on satire
which were shown on educational television stations under
the title "Man and Laughter." In 1957-1958 he was Ful-
bright lecturer in American Literature at the University
of Ceylon. He has written for The Atlantic, College English,
and other periodicals, has had radio plays produced on
NBC, and is co-author with his wife of an English hand-
book-workbook published by Oxford University Press.
