Halverson Halverson & Associates Brea, California Project success is completely dependent on adequate planning, direction, scheduling, monitoring, and control. These project functions must be closely bound together by an adequate information and control system if project per- formance is to be adequately measured and controlled. For efficient project operation, a single information and control system should be used, not sepa- rate project and functional department cost control systems. The information and control system should be compatible to the needs of project and func- tional managers. When such systems are being considered for a new project, consideration should be first given as to whether an existing system could be modified to meet project requirements. Maximum use should be made of existing accounting systems. However, projects have special requirements which must be met by the information and control system. These requirements make use of such tools as PERT/CPM, PERT/cost, precedence diagramming method (PDM), work -118- |
