The Cultural
Tower of Babel

It is impossible to pick up a newspaper or read a business maga-
zine without seeing references to the globalized economy. Head-
lines feature the financial crisis in Asia and its likely effect on the
U.S. or European economy. This phenomenon cannot help but catch
the attention of readers in all walks of life. Go into any supermar-
ket and you are offered products from around the world. Go into an
American electronics store and notice that most of the products are
manufactured by Asian companies. Observe automobile traffic and
see a United Nations parade of automobiles go by. Global products
and global markets are reshaping the world. These market and eco-
nomic trends are greatly changing the culture of companies now
competing internationally.
