I must say one other thing. Though there are plenty of
things in the story of the Newman family to invite irrever-
ence, I hope I have, at least, never been facetious. As for
J. H. N., though he sometimes provokes an exasperated sigh
or an ironic chuckle, who can do other than revere that brave,
kind, solitary, gifted, tormented angel?
