A wide variety of resources are available to addicted people and family members. These include agencies that provide referrals for treatment and resources for education, information, and litera- ture. There are numerous self-help programs for addicted people and family members, many of which are based on the Twelve-Step model of Alcoholics Anonymous.Also, there are specialized support groups for addicted professional people, such as those for addicted physi- cians and nurses. Some organizations and programs are of particular interest to people with dual disorders. Finally, there are numerous self-help clearinghouses to help people locate or even organize a local self-help program.

The yellow pages of the local phone book should list the treatment programs available within that region. The local affiliates of the Na- tional Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence will also pro- vide information about local treatment resources.
