The Instructional Designer

Objectives
After completing Chapter 7, readers should be able to
identify and describe the role of the instructional designer in HRD.
identify and describe the seven subroles of the instructional designer.
distinguish among the seven subroles.
identify and describe the activities and responsibilities of the instructional
designer during each of the nine phases of the program planning, design,
and evaluation process.
identify and describe the 16 competencies for the instructional designer.
distinguish among the 16 competencies and identify which ones are appro-
priate for each of the nine phases of the program planning, design, and
evaluation process.
utilize IBSTPI's "Checklist for Instructional Designers" in the analysis and
critique of learning programs and training activities either designed by or
evaluated by the instructional designer.
identify the competencies listed by the Ontario Society for Training and
Development.
explain the two role cluster models that describe instructional design.
explain the relationship of the role of the instructional designer to the other
HRD roles.
