CHAPTER NINETEEN
Some of the New Hands Weren't
Dealt So Well

1934 — Will fought actively against having the army pilots fly the air
mail. He wanted to keep these boys at their rightful task of making Amer-
ica strong while he advised F.D.R. in the struggle in
Europe to say, "Boys,
its your cats thats fighting, you pull 'em apart."

When Ireland abolished its senate, he did some wishful thinking about
the
United States. But the long-haired boys didn't get his mental telepathy.

For relaxation, he took 0. O. McIntyre, Irvin Cobb and some of the
"weaker sex" for a wild drive on his ranch. They're saved in a nick of
time by a quick riding cowboy.

Betty, Bill and Jim, and Will make a trip around the world — from
west to east. Will slyly dropped his "wifely" acquired excess wardrobe
along the way until he got into
New York with his same little red valise and
portable typewriter.
