BACON AND NATURAL HISTORY

BETWEEN 1621 AND 1626, THE YEAR OF HIS DEATH, Bacon com-
poses an almost unbelievable number of works. Among these
are a History of the Reign of King Henry the Seventh; in
dialogue form, an Advertisement touching an Holy War; a
Preface to a Digest the Laws of England; the Beginning of
the History of the Reign of King Henry the Eighth
; a third edi-
tion of the Essays; the Translation of Certain Psalms into English
Verse
. The philosophic writings of this period include a re-
vision of the New Atlantis; De principiis atque originibus,
secundum fabulas cupidinis et coeli
: etc. (Concerning Princi-
ples and Origins, according to the Fables of Cupid and Coelum:
etc.)

losophiam; sive phenomena universi
