Several of my graduate students also gave me comments on the
manuscript, especially Richard Rinard, Annette Holmann, Andreas Rickerl,
Fred Goos, and Nancy Smith. Being confronted with it in class they could
scarcely escape, but bore up with fortitude.

Gustav Gumpert, of Smithkline Beecham, gave me helpful advice
about the focus of the project when it was just beginning.
