Daniel Widlöcher, psychoanalyst and psychiatrist, is currently Vice Presi-
dent of the International Psychoanalytic Association. He is a Member of
the Association Psychanalytique de France; Professor of Psychiatry, Uni-
versité Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris VI and the Groupe Hospitalier Pitié-
Salpêtrière; Director of the French National Health and Medical Research
Institute division of Behavioral Psychopathology and Pharmacology; and
Co-Director of the Revue Internationale de Psychopathologie. Dr. Widlöcher
is the author of many books on child psychopathology, psychoanalysis,
and biological psychiatry, including Traité de psychopathologie ( Paris: P.U.F.
1994) and Psychanalyse et psychothérapies ( Paris: Flammarion 1996).

Joan J. Zilbach, M.D., is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Boston
Psychoanalytic Society and Institute and is on the faculty of Harvard Medical
School and of the Fielding Institute in Santa Barbara. She is the author of
numerous articles and books focusing on child and family therapy and on
the psychoanalytic psychology of women.
