ABOUT THE EDITORS

Robert B. Ashmore, Aristotle and Aquinas on the Good Life

Robert B. Ashmore is Professor of Philosophy and Director of
the Center for Ethics Studies at Marquette University. He received his
doctorate from the University of Notre Dame in 1966. His book,
Building a Moral System, was published by Prentice-Hall in 1987. He
co-edited and contributed to Ethics Across the Curriculum: The
Marquette Experience
, which was published in 1991 as an outcome of the
first grant awarded by the National Endowment for the Humanities.
In addition to his publications in ethical theory, Dr. Ashmore has
written on business ethics, process reforms in politics, and human rights
issues in the Middle East conflicts. In 1989 he was awarded
Marquette's Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence. Elected alderman
in the City of Mequon, Wisconsin in 1993, Ashmore also serves that
community as chair of the city's Ethics Board.

William C. Starr, Kant, Mill, and the Supreme Principle of Morality

William Starr is Associate Director of the Center for Ethics
Studies and Associate Professor of Philosophy at Marquette University.
He received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Before coming to Marquette, he held teaching appointments at Queens
University of Belfast and Penn State. He both teaches and publishes
in the areas of moral, legal, and political philosophy. In addition to the
present volume, he has co-edited two previous books. They are (with
Richard Taylor) Moral Philosophy: Historical and Contemporary Essays
and (with Robert Ashmore) Ethics Across the Curriculum: The
Marquette Experience
