THERE are two editions of Zola's collected works: the standard edition, published by Charpentier-Fasquelle, and one edited by Maurice Le Blond and issued by the Bernouard Press. The Bernouard edition embodies cer- tain improvements on the Charpentier one: each volume contains, in an appendix, a certain amount of information about the sources, composition, and reception of the work; the collection of Zola's letters in the Bernouard edition is fuller than that to be found in the Charpentier-Fasquelle edi- tion; and the volume Mdlanges gathers together some material which would otherwise be difficult of access -- Zola's speeches, prefaces, some of his verse, and a few of the newspaper articles that he wrote after the Franco- Prussian War and did not have reprinted in the books of criticism. The following list covers all Zola's published works (excluding pam- phlets) with the dates of appearance, grouped under such headings as seem most convenient.
