THE DUTY OF ALL DEGREES AND ESTATES GENERALLY, BOTH TOWARD GOD AND THEIR NEIGHBOUR.
The duty of all degrees and estates generally, both toward God and their neighbour, is to believe in God, to fear God and to keep his commandments, to love God above all things, and our neighbour as ourself, and to do none other- wise unto other than we wish to be done unto ourself.
Probations out of the holy scripture.
"Ye believe in God, believe also in me," saith Christ. "Fear God, and keep his commandments. For that belongeth to all men." "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. The second is like unto this: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. In these two commandments are contained the whole law and prophets." "Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even the same to them also. For this is the law and the prophets."
