AUTHOR'S NOTE

I gratefully acknowledge permission of the California, Michigan and
New York University Law Reviews to use material in these articles of
mine: "The New Federal Immunity Act and The Judicial Function", 45
Calif. L. Rev. 109 ( 1957); Concept of Ordered Liberty"--A New Case,
47 Calif. L. Rev. 238 ( 1959); "Compelling the Testimony of Political
Deviants", 55 Mich. L. Rev. 163, 375 ( 1956-57); "Congress Shall Make
No Law * * *"; 56 Mich. L. Rev.331, 579 ( 1958); "State Power Over
Sedition, Obscenity and Picketing", 34 N.Y.U.L. Rev. 817 ( 1959).

The material has been brought down to date. This book speaks as of
October 1959. It carries through the term of the United States Supreme
Court which ended in June 1959; and the first session of the 86th Con-
gress, which adjourned in September.

I am indebted for aid in the preparation of the manuscript to my
secretary, Miss Pauline Chakonas.
