Wallace Fowlie Wallace Fowlie was born in Brookline, Massachusetts in 1908. Educated at Harvard, he completed his doc- toral dissertation on the French religious thinker Ernest Psichari. A constant visitor to France and commentator on contemporary French literature Wallace Fowlie has taught at Yale University, the University of Chicago, and presently at Bennington College. Among his many books are: Mallarméaud's Illuminations, Jacob's Night, The Clown's Grail, Age of Surrealism, De Villon à, and Pantomime. A Guide to Contemporary French Literature is published by Meridian Books for the first time and is also available in a limited cloth edition.
