Left-hand: HEAD OF ROMA, a personification
of the Roman Republic; behind is a branch
of laurel. This head is the regular type on the
obverse of the denarius that was circulating in
the time of the Gracchi.

Right-hand. HEAD OF AUGUSTUS. Inscrip-
tion: IMP(erator) IX TR(ibunicia) PO(testate)
V. This dates this silver tetradrachm, which
was minted in Asia Minor, to 19-18 B.C.

Centre: HEAD OF NERO. Inscription: NERO
CLAUD(ius) CAESAR AUG(ustus) GER(man-
icus) P(ontifex) M(aximus) TR(ibunicia)
P(otestate) IMP(erator) P(ater) P(atriae). This
sestertius was issued C. A.D. 64.
