However, we keep pursuing our goals, and little by little we make headway. Today, women have a more equal position in business, education, the profes- sions, than ever before. We have many more choices than our mothers and our mothers' mothers. And we have more control over our lives. However, our fight continues, for we are still paid less than our male counterparts, and we still carry the majority of the burden of birth control, child care, and management of the household. We are grossly underrepresented in the upper echelons of the corporate world and politics, and we still face serious threats to our equality in many facets of our lives.
There are myriad inspiring stories in this book of women who pushed on in the face of adversity, of how they rallied to tackle the next problem oppressing women. Take from this history the motivation needed to press on with the fight and face challenges -- new and old -- with the enthusiasm and inspira- tion of millions of women from the centuries and decades before this one.
