H.D. sends them on an intertextual journey that helps them recre- ate the text, and, in some measure, her own creative process. I would like to suggest, however, that you read Trilogy once without consulting the notes, then read again allowing the notes to inform your own intuitive response.
My hope is that this annotation will make Trilogy more accessi- ble to readers, and that teachers will be encouraged to have the heady experience of teaching one of the stunning poems of the century.
