ONE INTRODUCTION: 'A TRAGEDY RATHER THAN OTHERWISE'
On this continent wide, where our loved ones reside, We have railways, both 'great' and 'small'; But of first-water brand, ours alone is styled 'Grand', So the Grand Trunk leads them all!
... And we all declare, that no chief can compare, With the chief of our road -- Mr. Hays!
The great legal lights, in the fierce railroad fights, Seem anxious to make a figure; Let them swagger and frown in their biggest gown, Still the Grand Trunk has a 'Biggar'!
... The Grand Trunk Pacific is an infant terrific! Whose pranks Mr. Morse could expound; Last winter was frightful, but he thought it delightful! And engaged one for the year round!
... So Officers all, both great guns and small, We gather with good cheer and toast, ... Many happy returns! and ... blessings divine ... For our loved chief and host -- Chas. M. Hays.
'For the Reunion of Official Family of the Grand Trunk Railway System' W. H. Rosevear 16 May 1907
The road of a thousand wonders The trail of a hundred hell's [sic] The story of a thousand blunders Is the tale the death roll tells.
