ACT TWO

SCENE IX

The officers and nurses are singing the refrain of"I'm in
Love with a Wonderful Guy."

NELLIE walks on from the opposite side, looking straight
ahead of her, a set expression on her face.

NURSE
(As they pass her)
Coming to the dance, Nellie?
(NELLIE just shakes her head and passes them.)

A LIEUTENANT
What's the matter with her?
(Three girls in a trio and in a spirit of kidding NELLIE,
sing back over their shoulders at her, "She's in love,
she's in love, she's in love, she's in love with a wonder-
ful guy." Even before they have reached the end of this,
the lights have started to dim. Now the lights come up
in back, revealing:)
