The impact of evangelicalism upon Australian Anglicanism has
been profoundly significant--in the founding years, in urban and
rural settings, in constitutional affairs, and more. 1. That evangelical
tradition was imported from the world of the late eighteenth- century
Evangelical Revival in England. The flow of influence continued with
great power from both England and Ireland through the nineteenth
century and well into the twentieth. But the Australian evangelical
tradition within Anglicanism has also responded to local circum-

gelicalism in Australia. Piggin is the senior author of "Australian Evangelicalism, 1788-1988"
