About the Contributors

LYNNE B. ALVINE is associate professor and coordinator of the
Master of Arts in Teaching English Program at Indiana University of
Pennsylvania. A former middle and high school English teacher, she is
now a nationally recognized educational researcher and lecturer in Eng-
lish education.

MICHAEL L. ANGELOTTI is professor of education at the Univer-
sity of Oklahoma, Norman. An accomplished teacher and writer, he is
editor of English International, director of the Oklahoma Writing Pro-
ject, and poet in residence for the Oklahoma Arts Council.

JOAN BAUER is the author of Squashed, winner of the Delacorte
Press Prize for a First Young Adult Novel and the School Library Journal
Best Book of the Year Award. Her other novels include Thwonk, an
American Library Association Top Ten Best Book for Young Adults,
Rules of the Road (Putnam), and Sticks.

PATRICIA A. CRAWFORD is assistant professor of reading and lan-
guage arts education at the University of Central Florida, Orlando. A
former elementary teacher, her writing appears in Language Arts, Teach-
ing and Learning Literature

Research in Childhood Education

DAVID B. DANIEL is assistant professor of psychology at the Uni-
versity of Maine, Farmington. A specialist in child and adolescent de-
