relationship through façade and self-deception? Dishonesty happens in
fixation as does denial and disconnection from reality.

Distortion and selective filtering of partners' uniqueness satisfies
entrancement as inner needs fuse with external demands. Entrancement
selectively amplifies and exaggerates universal, human vulnerabilities.
As such, it can expose them and provide a healthy challenge for growth.
Entrancement distorts character defects as much energy is wasted chas-
ing the red herring of fatal flaws. As partners become healthier, they
discover their point of fusion-triggering entrancement.

This point of fusion involves a hypnotic logic-association-action-
strategy of a powerful, imaginative dynamic. Such a dynamic symbol-
izes the senses into a fantasized reality that now appears real. The irony
of this fantasized symbolism is that it is made of complete mind-body
stuff that is a total bypass of the heartfelt motif of a real person with real
care. This is intellectual fantasy posing as romantic reality. That is why
accessing the heartfelt senses creates such a disorganizing and detranc-
ing effect of reawakening.

Indeed, the creator of a dynamic change process called psychocy-
bernetics, Maxwell Maltz ( 1964), indicated that the mind cannot distin-
guish what is real and what is imagined when the vivid imagery has the
richness of the sensory, auditory, kinesthetic, and visual qualities. To
awaken is to sort out a commonsense reality that is based on being our
unique selves from fantasy ideals based on illusions. Awakening out of
entrancement involves piercing the veil of illusion through penetrating
honesty in one's relationship.

NOTE
1. There are times, however, that direct and deliberate focusing on being
consciously obsessive and dwelling on anxieties can short-circuit them. This is
a form of paradoxical effort of deliberately encouraging the unconscious, en-
tranced thinking to interrupt and abort it. Such an approach may not always be
helpful in working through the trauma.
