G. E. KIDDER SMITH

G. E. Kidder Smith, a Fellow of the American Institute of Archi-
tects, graduated from Princeton in 1935 and received his M.F.A.,
also from Princeton, in 1938. In addition to teaching at M.I.T. and
at Yale, he has lectured at schools of architecture and at museums
throughout the United States and much of Europe. His writings,
which cover the contemporary architecture of twenty-three coun-
tries, include
ITALY BUILDS ( 1955) and SWEDEN BUILDS ( 1957), and
he is now preparing a comprehensive book to be called
THE NEW
CHURCHES OF EUROPE
. Among the fellowships awarded to Mr. Smith
have been grants from the American Scandinavian Foundation and
the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the President's
Fellowship from Brown University, a Fulbright Award for Research
in Italy, and the Arnold W. Brunner Scholarship from the New
York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects which made
