Why hasn't theory in this area developed more? Perhaps because it was driven
not by a theory but, rather, by observation and inductive categories. Our
challenge now is to create that theory.

The essays collected in this volume provide not only a summary of what
has been accomplished to date, but also an initial theoretic map for future
research concerning strategic interpersonal communication.
