Furthermore, the need to justify the scholarship has evolved into a question of what should be done with it now that it exists: there is no better use than to pinpoint individual scores that have played a significant role in how composers write film music, in the way audiences hear it, in directorial perceptions of it, and in how scholars have theorised about it. The Series is, similarly, intended to reflect the variety of people who enjoy, experience and understand film music, drawing together contextual and experiential ideas with academic concepts of film studies and critical and analytical musicology. The Series Guides can be used in an academic context to support courses on film music, but they can also be enjoyed for their insight into the individual scores which have formed the love of film music experienced by many.
