A. PAUL HARE is a Professor of Sociology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel. He received a doctorate from the University of Chicago. His writing on social interaction in small groups includes Small Groups, co-edited with Borgatta and Bales, and the Handbook of Small Group Research. His work on Creativity in Small Groups and Social Interaction as Drama: Applications from Conflict Resolution provide the first outlines of the dramaturgical perspective that are elaborated in the present volume. He is also the author of many journal articles, the co-editor or editor of the volumes South Africa, Cooperation in Education, and The Struggle for Democracy in South Africa, and the founder and editor of the journal Israel Social Science Research.
HERBERT H. BLUMBERG lectures in psychology at the University of London Goldsmiths' College. He received a doc- torate from the Johns Hopkins University and has authored or co-authored over thirty articles and chapters in social psychology and social research methods.
Paul Hare and Herbert Blumberg have collaborated in editing three volumes of case studies on nonviolent action: Nonviolent Direct Action, Liberation Without Violence, and A Search for Peace and Justice, and (together with Kent and Davies) the readings on Small Groups and Social Interaction.
