Jesus, Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium seeks to show general readers what historians have long known about the Gospels and the man who stands behind them. Through a careful evaluation of the New Testament Gospels and other surviving sources, including the more recently discovered Gospels of Thomas and Peter, Ehrman proposes that Jesus can be best understood as an apocalyptic prophet, a man convinced that the world would end dramatically within his lifetime, and that a new kingdom would be created on earth--a just and peaceful kingdom ruled by a benevolent God. Moore enters into a dialogue with Buber and explores Buber's belief that religion and community are as essentially interrelated as the Thou spoken to God and the Thou spoken to other human beings. This new edition, with a foreword by Maurice Friedman, contains a new preface by the author. The preface addresses the new generation of readers who will be introduced to Buber.
