Bloomberg Adds Risk Management Engine

Bloomberg, the information and technology provider, has integrated a full-risk management engine into its trade and portfolio order management systems, to enable its buy- and sell-side customers to manage risk at the desktop.The firm has embedded the Algo Risk management application from Algorithmics into its Bloomberg Professional (BP) data and trading service. Algo Risk is available at a premium price over and above BP.

Tanys Lancaster, who heads the project, said Bloomberg has between 600 and 650 buy- and sell-side customers using its trade order management system and portfolio order management system for deal capture and profit and loss calculations. These customers have been asking for more risk management capabilities, she said.

BP customers now have access to real-time risk profile and scenario generation across all asset classes supported by the trade order management system and portfolio order management system, including corporate and government bonds, equities and money markets.

Algorithmics and Bloomberg have been working for a little over a year to integrate the two products, said Lancaster. …
