Husband Sent Wife's Lover a Fateful Message

A CHEATED husband accused of murdering his wife sent her lover a text message saying, ``Meeting her was the worst thing you ever did,'' a court heard yesterday.

Landscape gardener John Simms yesterday told a murder trial jury how he had a holiday romance with married mother-of-three Karon Pugh.

But her husband Christopher, 43, allegedly battered wife Karon with a hammer after discovering text messages from her lover.

Nurse Karon, 43, started the romance with John Simms after meeting him on a trip to Spain.

Yesterday Mr Simms, 52, told Cardiff Crown Court how they spent their last night on holiday together on the beach. ``At that stage our relationship became intimate. We had both had quite a lot to drink that night.''

Mr Simms, giving evidence from behind a screen, said they had exchanged phone numbers, and kept in contact after their holiday romance.

He said he spent the night with Karon in the home she shared with Pugh, while he was away.

On the day Karon was murdered, Mr Simms said she had come to Cardiff to meet him. …
