THE sun sizzles overhead as palm trees are framed against a golden beach and azure sea.

The idyllic summer scene could be of the Caribbean or some other exotic holiday destination. It is, in fact, the backdrop of Barrhead Travel's themed tropical island in their new superstore.

The alluring sea views, and the surf-board propped up against the beach bar, are designed to get holiday-makers in the mood before they jet off on their dream break.

Barrhead Travel's flagship store in Glasgow includes a host of themed sections, tailored to different destinations.

The largest section of The World of Travel is one of the most popular - customers take a seat and have a one-to-one consultation with a package holiday specialist.

And if you're looking for a last-minute deal, this is the place to find it. The large tour operator says it's releasing holidays at prices not available anywhere else.

Because Barrhead Travel is independent you will have the full range of holidays to choose from.

In another corner, customers can gaze on a French boulevard as consultants search the extensive database for a weekend jaunt to Paris, or any other weekend break destination.

There's also a log cabin, where you can sit and watch DVDs of the various types of activity holidays Barrhead Travel provides, including skiing, walking, sailing, mountain biking and wine tasting.

Those seeking a holiday on the ocean can head to the cruise ship.

Jacqueline Dobson, cruise manager, said: "Our cruise specialists can book any cruise - from three-star to six-star luxury. Whether it's a customer's first cruise, or they are regular cruisers, we can find the right ship for them."

She added: "Feedback from customers has been fantastic. They enjoy booking with us, as it looks as if they're really on a cruise ship. If they book a P&O, Princess or Ocean Village cruise, they can even watch a video of their chosen ship."

There is also a flight centre where clients can sit inside an aircraft and discuss plans to fly off to America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the Far East or Europe.

The state-of-the-art travel centre in the heart of Glasgow created 75 jobs when it opened last month.

The World of Travel is the UK's largest themed travel agency.

Its 10 specialist departments are run by 200 experienced and highly-trained staff.

Paul Gardner, director of Barrhead Travel, said: "Our highly experienced and dedicated staff are on hand to help customers with all their travel needs. …
